Marci called it a formula for converting traffic into signups and/or sales. Maybe it’s a process? Either way, it involves communicating with your prospective referrals/buyers. What better way to do that than getting them onto a list where you can keep in communication with them? Building a relationship with them and connecting with them?

Sure, you can offer ethical bribes and incentives with credits and ads in a mailer or splash page. However, how much easier would it be to get your signups and buyers from people that already know you and trust you to do right by them? You can still offer them a bribe (ethical bribe, that is). It’s just easier to reach them than it is a stranger on the internet reading your emails or staring at your splash page.

Turn Up The Traffic!

Marci started by defining the two basic types of traffic: On Demand and Time release. On Demand traffic, as the name implies, is traffic that gives you immediate results. Time Release traffic spreads the results out depending on when the ad(s) is seen.

Traffic exchanges, safelists, and mailers can provide both types. When you add the site or mail for it, there are viewers who can immediately react to it. Or future viewers can react to the TE page or the email later as they return to that venue.

Time Release traffic is typically Ezine articles and blog posts. However, as I said, TE and mailer traffic can also be this type.

Social media can also fall into both types. Make sure that your use of social media is conducive to your business though. You want to bring attention to your posts in Twitter, Facebook, etc. but don’t shoot yourself in the foot getting too controversial with your more personal posts if you do non-commercial posts too.

What’s In Your Funnel?

Your funnel is what helps you take traffic, turn it into leads, and make continued sales to those leads as subscribers to your autoresponder. Continued feeding of traffic to your funnel builds and maintains your subscriber base. So you can make more continued sales…

That doesn’t mean that you just pitch, pitch, and pitch to your subscribers. To maintain your credibility, you need to promote products and services to your list that YOU use. A marketing funnel is based on internet marketing tools and traffic.

The top of your funnel should be primarily the tools and resources that you use to build your funnel. And you should be filling your email series with useful knowledge to help your subscribers build their funnels and subscriber lists.

Time For a Change

Today, Saturday, January 3, Time For a Change

It’s 2015! A new year. Time to set New year’s resolutions. But before you can set new resolutions, you need to compare last year’s goals with last year’s accomplishments. THEN you can set this year’s goals and make your resolutions — Your new goals for your online business.

This includes taxes! Did you move? Have you checked the local and state taxes for your new locale? Do you know what your state requires for tax purposes? Do they require you to claim adjusted or gross income? Do you have to pay them monthy? Quarterly? Annually? Do you live in a new city or county that taxes, or at least, requires you to register your business? Make sure you’ve got your tail end covered.

Affiliates and site owners outside of the U.S. can check with their local and country specific taxes too. Check your country’s online site for new tax or VAT requirements. These are changing more every year.

Now, where were you making your income? Which sites/programs? Which type of business? If you’re doing MLM and affiliate business, which one is making you more? Adjust your efforts accordingly.

If you’re just doing affiliate business, that’s still a business. Have you thought of getting an EIN for your business? An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. (You can find out more here: http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/Employer-ID-Numbers-EINs )

Surfing is a great entry point for generating free traffic. And it can be fun too. However, losing focus on the traffic generation and chasing after change can cost you. After all, it’s not easy to reach commission cashout amounts by the penny, nickel, and/or dime.

Start by promoting sites that you upgrade in. Where a One Time Offer entices you to upgrade, it can entice your referrals to upgrade at too. And helping your referrals to make money too helps them to upgrade! See how that works?

Planning Ahead

The three major areas Marci covered in planning ahead were:

1 – Hosting. Whatever hosting provider you use, make sure that you can upgrade your account should the need arise. There’s nothing worse than running out of bandwidth or availability and having to get a new account before you can use your site again! This is especially important if you have your own membership site.

2. Your Funnel. Make sure your funnel follows a logical, step-by-step, easy to follow path. And make sure it flows from bonus to lower priced items to higher priced items.

3. Planning for investments in your business – including upgrades. Budget vs. Balance.

Advanced Tracking

I asked Marci what she considered the main points of today’s seminar. Here they are:

1. Give yourself as many clues as possible. Follow the breadcrumbs back. Use longer keywords for your tracking links if necessary, so you can read your tracking quickly.

2. Check the tracking and make sure that it’s not conflicitng with your affiliate tracking/cookies — don’t give your referrals/sales to someone else.

3. Before you spend your money view your results. And before you join a new resource, whether it be a mailer, safelist, or exchange, get a second opinion from a trusted source. See what kind of results they are getting.

4. Use goal tracking in the VVP banner section if you own your own site. (I coached this one into the list.)
